It is pretty obvious that if you live in Colorful Colorado and are planning a trip to Europe or Hawaii that you don’t drive. Different people have different ideas of what a vacation is too. It depends a lot on how much time you have too. A lot of time it makes sense to use a combination of the two. we have done that several times. renting a car can be a lot of fun because you can get anything from a huge SUV to a VW Beetle Convertible or maybe even a Corvette. Depends a lot on the people who are going too. We are people that generally travel light and enjoy shorts and golf shirts in the summer. Now days most everything is wash and wear so you don’t really need a lot of fancy clothes even to go to church or out on the town. If I have to have a coat and tie to go eat a steak somewhere for some outrageous price. I’ll go to Texas Roadhouse or Outback in my shorts and sandals and get the same steak for a third the price. We went to Florida one time and flew to Atlanta and rented a new Beetle Convertible. Went up to the Smokeys and then across North Carolina and down the coast all the way to Key West then came back across the Everglades Parkway and up the West coast of Florida and over to Mobile Alabama and back to Atlanta. we had a ball and that little Beetle was a lot of fun and got good gas mileage too.
I like to see the country and see things I haven’t seen so we drive on short trips. If you go some place quite often, like we go to Las Vegas a couple times a year and one driving trip there is about enough so we fly but usually rent some kind of a little car when we get there or a lot of times we just walk if we stay on the strip. Taxis are pretty reasonable and there are plenty of them.
We hope to take a trip back to New England for the fall colors one of these days and we will probably fly to Boston and the rent a car and got up through Maine and Hew Hampshire and Vermont.
We want to take a driving trip up to the Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, Banff, Jasper and then across British Columbia and then down the Oregon and California Coast sometime. we will take our Subaru Forester and our Golden Retriever and probably spread it over a month or six weeks.
We would like to go to Hawaii and to Munich and of course would have to fly there but in general we like to take our time and see the sights and drive.
